Q. Vaal dam barbel on the fly in early summer

As the days become longer and the water starts warming up, large schools of barbel start moving into the shallows to feed and so present prime targets for fly fishing. But they are not always present and they are not always the same size fish. The best is to go there often and visit the large shallow gullies, especially in the Vaal Dam, and when you hit the jackpot and find them, just enjoy every moment, stretch the day as long as possible and make memories!
