Gys Pitzer Winter Classic 2024

Registration Information – Entries are still open – No more shirts available after 15/7.

  • Tournament entry fee is R5 000 per team of four anglers and includes resort entrance, 1 Shirt & 1 Beanie for each team member and a welcome goody bag. Entries will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
  • Registration will open on 6 May 2024
  • Entries will only be confirmed when payment is received.
  • Entry payments are not refundable, but are transferable.
  • Correspondence will follow within 24 hours of entry.

Prize Allocation

(Rev 3 – 20 Junie 2024 – Allocation may change as per organisers’ discretion)

  • Target species for cash prizes is strictly Carp. (No Grass Carp)
  • Three heaviest carp per team will determine the winners.
  • Cash prizes are awarded to teams.
  • Only one cash prize per team.
  • Specific product prizes for various species will be awarded for heaviest fish of other species..
  • Grass Carp, Mudfish and Barbel will qualify.
  • Heaviest Specie Prizes are awarded to individuals.
  • Individuals that are part of winning teams can still win specie prizes.
  • An individual can only win one specie prize.
  • Anglers must be at the prize giving to receive any prizes.
  • Many Lucky Draw Prizes will be given out.

Angling Rules

(Rev 3 – 11 July 2024 – Rules may change as per organisers’ discretion)

  • Maximum of Four Anglers per peg.  
  • Maximum eight rods rods per peg in the water at any time.
  • Any rod can be handled by any team member.
  • No member of any team may handle a rod of another team.
  • Any angling member may assist landing a fish, even from another team.
  • Fish can be landed outside your peg area.
  • For the sake of fish care, please land the fish in the water and do not drag it onto the bank.
  • A spod rod or rocket is allowed, but it is included in the 8 rods, meaning if you want to feed, one of these rods must be taken out.
  • No extra spod-rods or hand lines will be allowed.
  • Marker floats are allowed to be used to determine depth, but is part of the 8 rods.
  • Fishing starts at 15:00, and no rods are allowed to be casted before that, not even marker float rods.
  • Canoes, Bait boats and inflatables are not allowed.
  • Any type of feeding method is allowed, as long as it is done from the bank.
  • The border of the bank is indicated by the peg.
  • All casting must be done from behind the number pegs.
  • While using a feeding rod or spombing/spodding rod, another rod must be taken out.
  • Any type of bait and trace can be used. Bank Angling, Carp Angling or Feeder fishing methods can be used.
  • Pods, alarms, lights etc can be used.
  • Fly and art-lure may be used.
  • There are no line class or line type restrictions.
  • DNA testing to establish the origin of carp weighed in during the event can be conducted if necessary.
  • No loud music or noise will be tolerated.
  • No littering or vandalism will be tolerated.
  • The maximum vehicle speed is 40km/h in all zones.
  • No assault or verbal abuse will be tolerated.
  • Visitors and non-angling family members are prohibited from fishing, or assisting in the landing of any fish.
  • No non-angling visitors may handle tackle or land a fish.
  • No catches will be weighed in more than 15 minutes after the hooter has gone – if you are in the demarcated area by 10:15 it is ok.
  • When the hooter sounds to indicate the end of the tournament only anglers busy landing a fish will be eligible to weigh in.
  • No open fires are permitted – bomas and braais are welcome.

Weigh in Rules

(Rev 2 – 12 June 2024 – Rules may change as per organisers’ discretion)

  • Dedicated calibrated scales will be on the bank – at designated areas in the middle of each zone.
  • Fish to be kept in soft carp sacks or keep nets.
  • Weigh stations will only be open at specific times.
  • There will be fixed weigh-in times in the day:
  • Friday 20:00 – 21:00
  • Saturday 07:00 – 08:00
  • Saturday 13:00 – 14:00
  • Saturday 18:00 – 19:00
  • Saturday 22:00 – 23:00
  • Sunday 09:00 – 10:15 (Last Weigh) if you are in the demarcated area by 10:15 it is ok.
  • Each team need to bring their catches to the weigh-in in those periods.
  • Only three carp will be accepted at each weigh-in per team. The team needs to decide on the heaviest three by themselves. No culling at the scale.
  • Muddies, grasscarp and barbel – only one of each per person per weigh-in.
  • Fish will only be weighed by Marshalls on tournament scales.
  • Each team will sign the weigh sheet for every fish they weigh.
  • Fish to be released immediately after weigh-in.
  • No dead fish will be weighed.
  • Leader board can only be followed on the www.foranglers.co.za website and the dedicated application. There will be a live leaderboard on ProCarp.
  • Officials/Marshalls will upload your catches.
  • Only the heaviest 3 carp per team will count towards prizes.
  • Grass Carp, Barbel & Mudfish can be weighed for specie prizes.
  • All Specie prizes will be on an individual basis.
  • The HEAD official’s decision is final.

Pegging of the water

  • There will be max 100 pegs with 4 anglers per peg.
  • The absolute minimum that pegs will be apart is 50m – center to center
  • In C-zone where the pegs are around a point and the waters opens up, it should be no problem, but we have enough water there for about 55m.
  • In A, B & D zones we have enough water for 70 – 90 meters.
  • In terms of bank used by the anglers, we ask that you stay within the two numbered pegs.
  • Peg numbers will be regarded as the waterline/casting border
  • Weighing stations will be in the middle of the zones
  • Families can draw up to three adjacent pegs (one or two to the right)
  • Arial Map of the Zones – Follow the Direction Boards from the road.

Direct Disqualifications

  • Cheating carp weight by any means
  • Receiving or giving any fish to and from anybody not part of the team, or from another team.
  • Refusing a vehicle search at gates.
  • Under the influence of alcohol and being disruptive or abusive.
  • Assault, verbal abuse to fellow competitors.
  • Loud music within the confines of the resort.

Organizers rights

  • We hereby notify all parties, competitors and anglers involved, that the organizers reserves the right to change the rules and make adjustments all in favour to enhance the success of this event at their own discretion.
  • Cash prizes can or may change if the required target of 100 pegs aren’t reached.
  • First Prize of R100 000 is guaranteed by Gys Pitzer Motoring.
  • Zone Prizes of R10 000 is guaranteed by Gys Pitzer Motoring.
