Major Bass chairman Ken Ground reports that their 1st Fish Off of 2020 in October at Albert Falls Dam was fished in unseasonal weather – cold and windy – but despite the circumstances a fair turnout of 13 members – 1 lady and 12 men – including new members, Nick Fortmann, Craig Arnold and Jeremy Arnold attended.
With the water level at only 31% and with a cool water temperature in the region of 19ºC the fishing was tough, although some quality fish made up for the lack of quantity, such as a 3,57kg specimen caught by Shane Pilgrim that was also the biggest fish of the weekend.
His fish also won 1st place by giving him 5.29 points, 2nd going to Mark Lendon on 4,21 points, 3rd to Nick Fortmann on 3,0 points and 4th overall -with the coveted Rose Bowl– going to new member Craig Arnold on 2.5 points.
CMH Kempster Ford Durban South is Major Bass’ new main sponsor of an innovative prize scoring system. There are 40 predetermined selected weights contained in 40 sealed envelopes. Once all the results are in, a member of the club will select two envelops one for Saturday and one for Sunday. The person with a fish weight closest to the Saturday weight wins R1 000 and the same for Sunday. Saturday’s selected weight was 1.940kg won by Mark Lendon’s fish of 1.610kg, and on Sunday the selected weight was 1.830kg won by Craig Arnold‘s fish of 1.5kg.
