Bass Angler

As usual the captain’s meeting was held on Saturday at 08:00, where the fishing times were agreed, with Saturday commencing at 08:00 and ending at 17:00. Sunday started at 06:00 until 12:00. The water level at Midmar was 101%.

The water temperature was in the region of 16ºC. The weather was cold and cloudy with a little rain on Saturday night and Sunday morning. Turnout was good for Midmar with 16 members attending the Fish-Off – one lady, and fifteen men.

The fishing was fairly good, with most catching their limits and some getting their PB. It was great to see some old faces return, especially John and Dan. John Barnes has had a torrid time with Covid, which he went down with eight months ago. Glad to have John pull through and is well enough to attend the Fish-Off. Thanks to Glenn Middleton for lighting the fire and Shane for booking and paying for the campsites, even though he cocked it up a little. The last Fish-Off at Hazelmere was cancelled due to heavy rains and floods. A few hardy members pitched up, however it was clear that the heavens were going to open, so all departed by midday. Two members were extremely bleak, as they had caught a couple of fish over a kilogramme, however the members who attended the Fish-Off voted in favour of cancelling it (sorry Dutch and Clive!).

Note – at the end of the year the top seven Fish-Offs will be counted towards determining who is the top angler for 2022, and not eight as in the past.
