GERT KRUGEL

This couta that Gert caught weighed 12,6 kg. He caught it on a live shad off Zinkwazi.

KEVIN BOYDER

Here are the two Raggies I caught: one on a bonnie head and the other on a mackerel. The first was landed in about 15 minutes, while the second took around 40 minutes. I caught them off Richards Bay, two hours before low tide at night. Both were approximately 140kg.

Rhenosterkop Bass

Nicholas Crawford of Rayton started the New Year with a bang. He booked an early January trip with Nick van Zyl of Venom Lures Fishing Safaris (Contact: 082 393 1229) on Renosterkop Dam. During the enjoyable day on the water despite intermittent rain showers he caught several good quality bass that gave him quite a tug. Good anglers don’t let a little rain stop them! His most productive baits were Venom Lures spinnerbaits and stick baits.

Een van talle grootbek-geelvisse wat naby die samekoms van die Harts- en Vaalriviere naby Delportshoop in die Noord-Kaap op vlieg aangekeer is.

CORNWILL WEITSZ

I caught this duckbill on 3 January this year at Gouritsmond Beach using an octopus leg. The disc width was 182cm (= 82kg). The fight started at 06:30 and the ray was landed at 10:30. The ray was safely released after photos of this once in a lifetime catch was taken.

DONSIE VOLSCHENK

I caught this honey ray from the swimming beach at St Lucia on an Assasin Evo 7 with a Diawa Saltist MQ 20000 and 50 lb Boss braid. That was the second one of the early evening just before high tide, and the bait was a shad head with some cutlets. The first one was lost in the shore wash while trying to land it by friend Chris Venter, so at least this photo makes up for the lost one.

Caught off Margate pier using a combination of whole chokka and mackerel.

WILLIE (Stompie) KOEKEMOER

Vanuit die Margate-omgewing het Stompie vir ons ’n video en foto gestuur waarop hy besig is om ’n haai te vang. In die video beantwoord hy vrae van omstanders, soos watter aas hy gebruik het.

Nog ’n haaivangs vir Stompie vroeër in Januarie.

BENNIE DE BRUYN

My heel eerste groot vis vang ek toe vanaf Margate Pier, en dit nogal ‘n dorado! Dit was vroegoggend, 05:40, en dit weeg 6,3kg. Wat ‘n wonderlike ervaring!

CLAYTON HUGO

Clayton caught this beautiful honeycomb ray weighing 98kg and a sand shark weighing 49,3kg in Durban, using redeye and mackerel as bait. Both were caught on an Assassin Horizon rod and Saragosa 25 reel.

CHRIS ODENDAAL

Hierdie 14kg kabeljou het ek op 15 Desember verlede jaar by Witsand gevang tydens sonopkoms om 05:40 toe die water besig was om te sak. Dis gevang met ’n lewendige harder.

CHARMAINE WAGENER

Tydens ’n kompetisie by Vlooikop het ek ’n 4,16kg grootbek-swartbaars gevang met ’n Fat Albert Grub kunsaas. Die kleur van die aas was cotton candy.
