NICK VAN ZYL
Out of Morrungula in May charter skipper Nick van Zyl caught what he describes as his biggest ever Great Barracuda during a three-day session. Trolling big Magnum ‘Divebait’ highspeed lures that dive down to 30’ (9 metres) he and his client caught a “boat load of fish” that included this huge Barracuda (right) as well as the large Wahoo.

TJ ERLANK
TJ het dié swartbaars by Mount Amanzi in Harties gevang. Die aas wat hy gebruik het was ’n Rattletrap met ’n 7 voet Okuma Stratus visstok en ’n Shimano Sienna 3000 katrol. Magda Erlank.
WILLIE KOEKEMOER
Hier is my 5kg mosselkraker gevang by Marina Beach in KZN met Pink prawns en sardine belly tydens laagwater.
PIET MEIRING
Ek het ’n 9kg swart mosselkraker vanuit Port Alfred gevang waar ek uit op die diepsee was. Die aas was ’n seekatpoot.
BOOI PIETERSEN
Booitjie vang gereeld vis vanaf Port Alfred se pier. – Ursula Grimbeek.
THEO SWART
Theo from Jeffrey’s Bay caught this beautiful kabeljou at Gamtoos River on live mullet.
DORAIN DU PREEZ @FISHING WITH DREADS
Last weekend myself and two best friends headed out to Voëlvlei Dam to target barbel. Arriving late afternoon we set up camp for the night and popped in some lines to catch some baitfish. My aim was to get some small carp. After the first few casts I landed some perfect sizes which I wanted to use as live and dead baits. A few tilapia came out and a single witvis that were released. Once we had enough bait for the night we put out our barbel rods and the wait began. Within 20 minutes I had the first barbel on. A 2kg fish came out on a smaller bait of cutworm/snail combo dipped in Magic Baits’ chicken blood dip. The second fish to come out on a dead day-old chick was a 4,6kg fish, and another on day-old chick picked up a 5,4kg. They definitely were getting bigger as the night went on. In that time I got some interest on the carp baits with a few runs and drops. Next fish to pick up the day-old chick was a 6,66kg.
I love fishing for barbel. They are strong fighters and loads of fun to catch. One of my carp baits got picked up with a proper run, so fishing with circle hooks I just lifted the rod to tighten the line. As the fish runs further it sets the hook solid in the corner of the mouth. After a nice tussle a 7.1kg barbel popped into the net. As the mist and colder water temp came in the fish went very quiet with the odd bite and uneducated half runs. Finally, the reel screamed off again with a long run on a whole small carp. Fish on! This fish gave a proper account of itself and after a good fight I landed a 9.5kg. What a stunning session! My buddies also landed some decent barbel – we had such a blast!
ROCHELLE SMITH
Not even a broken hand can keep Rochelle from Gam Garrick Guided Fishing Tours away from the water. Showing off with a beautiful grunter that she managed to land –broken hand and all!
EMMA BERTHOLD
I caught this bass on our farm in the North-West. We love fishing and the bait was a green frog lure. The bass was about 3,8 kg.
